Tangy Plum Liqueur
Ingredients
16 cups black or red plums, pitted and cut into eighths, 3 ¼ cups white sugar, divided, 3 cups 100 proof vodka, 1 ½ tablespoons vanilla extract, divided, 1 orange peel in pieces, divided
Instructions
Layer half of the plums in a large jar, pressing firmly, then top with half of the sugar, vodka, vanilla, and orange peel. Repeat these layers with the remaining ingredients and seal the lid with wax to prevent leaks. Wrap the jar in a dark towel and store in a cool, dark spot for 21 days, turning it daily. Finally, strain the mixture through cheesecloth and transfer the finished liqueur into clean bottles.
