Apple Hand Pies
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter, 2 large green apples - peeled, cored, and cut into chunks, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, ¼ cup white sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt, 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon, or to taste, 1 teaspoon water, or more if needed (Optional), 1 pound prepared pie dough, cut into 4 pieces, 1 egg, 2 teaspoons milk, 1 teaspoon white sugar, or as needed
Instructions
Brown butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then sauté apples with sugars and salt until softened. Stir in cinnamon and water, cooking until sticky, and let the mixture cool. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet. Roll dough portions into 8-inch circles, add the filling, and fold the dough over, crimping the edges securely to seal. Brush each pie with an egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, and cut small vents in the tops. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown, then allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
