Watermelon Fruit Bowl
Ingredients
1 large watermelon, 1 cantaloupe, halved and seeded, 1 honeydew melon, halved and seeded, 2 (15 ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained, 2 (20 ounce) cans pineapple chunks, drained, 2 cups halved fresh strawberries, 2 cups seedless grapes , ½ cup water, ¼ cup white sugar, 2 tablespoons grated lemon zest
Instructions
Slice off the top quarter of a watermelon and use a melon baller to scoop out the flesh, leaving a half-inch border inside the shell. Ball the cantaloupe and honeydew similarly, then refrigerate all fruit separately. Create a simple syrup by boiling water and sugar until dissolved, then stir in lemon zest and let cool. In a large bowl, combine the melon balls with oranges, pineapple, strawberries, and grapes. Toss the fruit with the syrup, then transfer the mixture into the watermelon shell to serve, refilling with any remaining fruit as needed.
